Sony Xperia Got Android 4.0 Update – First Review

sony-xperia-got-android-4-0-update-first-reviewAfter long waiting, Sony released the update for Xpera! I have already said that, my phone is Sony Xpera Ray . Yesterday i updated my phone from Android 2.3 Gingerbread to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The ICS update correlates to 4.1.A.0.562 firmware (as expected) and is using the 2.6.32 kernel. In terms of performance it is ICS is faster than the Gingerbread builds. Memory optimization has improved since the beta builds with little redraw when moving from resource-hungry apps. It’s too early to report back on battery performance, but i will update it after some days of usage experience. In the graphics area, ICS is well improved. The update will never alter or remove any application or application settings. So, don’t worry, all the application and the the settings will automatically restored after the update.

I updated my phone using the Sony PC Companion. Before the update starts, sony will shows an introduction to Android 4.0. Here is the screenshot of the webpage (Click on the image to see in original size).

You know that, one of the main attract of android 4.0 is the Face Unlock. So, after the update, i rushed into the settings and checked for the Face Unlock settings. But, i cant find anything there! There is only the same options present in the android 2.3 (slide, pattern, pin & password). Finally i got the issue. The problem for the disappearance of face unlock is “Flash Player”! The android 4.0 doesn’t pre-installed the adobe flash player. We have to download it from the android play.I also recommends you to install adobe air for the faster performance of your device. After installing the adobe flash player, the face unlock settings is visible..

An another special update in android 4.0 is the widgets. Unlike android 2.3, we can see the exact preview of the widgets before applying to the home screen. The widgets are arranged in a good vertical flowing style for the selection. I have taken some screen shots too…

Im using Xperia S and since ive upgraded to ICS, I can no longer take screenshots. I tried ur suggestion by pressing the power and volume buttons together but it isnt working for me. Do u have any more idea on how to do it? Thank u!

    • I think, there is no special option for XPERIA S! Maybe a software/hardware issue…Post your issue in Sony Support Forum.I’m sure, they will help you.If your issue solved, Don’t forget to post a comment here. Your comment may help others having this same issue.
