Snuza Baby Monitor Review

My wife and I were looking for a video/audio monitor and tried almost every monitor out there. This is the review for the Snuza Baby Monitor from a real user.

We tried the monitors that go under the crib mattress but when our baby got sick with a cold and we needed to have her sleeping upright, we had a dilemma since the movement monitor wasn’t portable. We decided to try Snuza Hero because it was portable and  despite my daughter not having any of the risk factors for SIDS(Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) it gave us some kind of security.

The Snuza hero is portable because it is clipped to the diaper of the baby and has a sensor that monitors their stomach breathing movements. It has a unique vibration feature that is activated to stimulate baby’s movement if not sensed for 15 seconds. If movement is not detected within 5 seconds of the vibration, an audible alarm is activated. We take it everywhere we go with our baby so that we can have peace of mind.

Features:

  • small – fits onto baby’s diaper
  • portable
  • easy-to-use
  • vibration stimulation after 15 seconds
  • Rouse Warning
  • audible alarm after 20 seconds
  • Movement-rate Indicator to warn about weak or infrequent movement

Thank goodness we did. Since purchasing it, it has gone off three times in the middle of the night, and we don’t know if any of them was a false alarm but I surely sleep more relaxed knowing my baby has this little monitor en her. Any of the 3 timer it went off could have been a real issue and if it wasn’t for the monitor it could have been another story. Read all about SIDS and you will know how serious this subject is.

The Snuza Hero does have false alarms if it comes off the diaper, but this has only happened like 2 or 3 times and it is during the day when she is more active. I don’t mind the false alarms, although it really scares us each time.

No one knows what causes SIDS, but the three times the Snuza went off was when she was alseep and was when she got congested. She went to sleep fine and woke up sick so there was no way anyone would have known to be on alert. However, after each time I moved her and took her out of her crib and had her sleep sitting up without any more alarms.

Conclusion- Snuza Baby Monitor Review

The peace of mind alone makes this device worth it. My friends with babies who don’t have one tell me they wake up multiple times every night checking to make sure their baby is breathing. Our baby is 1 month old now and we still use it every night and she doesn’t seem to mind at all. When she starts to roll in a few months, even in her sleep, I will have peace of mind that she has this monitor taking into account that SIDS is a much higher risk when babies sleep on their stomach.

I would recommend this to anyone. I’m not a pediatrician, but in my limited experience with my daughter, I would highly recommend a Snuza Hero to any parent.
