We are starting the section “Photo of The Week” from this post. Today’s photo is about Underground Life. Cenote Samula is an underground flooded cave in Valladolid, Mexico. A hole in the roof is the result of tree roots which have grown all the way down into the mineral rich water. There are small fish, birds and bats living within this cenote. Cenotes once played an important role in ancient Mayan sacrificial offerings and rites.
