A top Intel exec has confirmed that the chipmaker will launch an internet based TV set top box that will be sold directly to consumers. Intel Media vice president Erik Huggers has gone on record to describe the device, long rumored to be in the works . The company plans to turn existing models of TV service on their head by allowing users to tune in to live broadcasts as well as order individual past episode on demand. The features apply only to the US as of now-Intel has not discussed plans to adapt the device to local markets, which operate very differently. The box will obviously be based CE4100 SoC that was aimed at consumer electronics. The only detail disclosed is that the set top box will come with a camera that will detect who is currently controlling the TV. Ultimately the products success will depend on content owners and studios, without whom there would be nothing to watch.
