Apple and Facebook have both released statements publicizing that they were victims of targeted attacks. Both were likely targeted by the same person or group. The attacks used a watering hole approach. Infecting the popular iPhoneDevSDK site with malware that uses a known vulnerability in Oracles java plug-in. the malware was specifically written to target machines owned by the two companies, and possibly others who have not yet stepped forward. Facebook says no user data was compromised, while Apple says no data of any sort left the company. The exact motive for the attacks remains unknown.
